Not All Days Will Be Good Days

Dear Church Family,

This past week, I was hit hard with sickness. Usually, I am an active and energetic person, but not this week. I was literally flat on my back with a sore throat, trouble swallowing, and a low-grade fever that stayed with me for five straight days. A slight burning in my lungs and a nagging cough zapped my energy. The only thing I could do was lay still.

While in that state, I found time to be quiet and pray. The Lord was working in me even through the sickness, which reminded me of a quote from Charles Spurgeon: “The Lord's mercy often rides to the door of our hearts on the black horse of affliction.” In this life, not all days will be good days. In fact, some days can be extremely difficult.

The Lord slowly weans us from this world and makes us long for heaven. If you are experiencing a challenging season in your life, remember the Lord is faithful. He will never leave or forsake you. If you happen to be laid up on a bed of sickness and can only be still, I want to encourage you to listen closely to what the Lord wants to say to you, and respond with the sacrifice of praise.

In Christ Alone,

Pastor John Randall

The LORD will strengthen him on his bed of illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed. Psalm 41:3
