Buwama, Uganda — Calvary Chapel Buwama

Pastor Charles Jjagwe is married to Levenia, and they are blessed with four children; Esther Kirabo – 23 years old studying at University; Deborah Kisakye – 21 years old, studying at University; Joshua Mugabi – 19 years old, studying at High School (Senior Five) and Aida Mirembe – 12 years old studying at Junior High (Senior One). They are serving the Lord at Calvary Chapel Buwama in Central-Western Uganda and blessed that all their children are serving and walking with the Lord faithfully!

Pastor Charles gave his life to Christ while studying medicine, coming out of a Catholic background. After graduating from medical school, he served for a year in one of the big hospitals in Western Uganda and married his wife, Levenia, on November 4, 2000. After that, God sent them to northwestern Uganda in a predominantly Muslim region, where they served at a newly established Calvary Chapel. During that time, they completed a nine-month online Discipleship Course with Calvary Chapel San Juan Capistrano (now Calvary South OC) from 2013 to 2014—an experience that greatly deepened Pastor Charles’s expository biblical knowledge and ministry skills.

In December 2020, God led them to begin a Bible teaching church in Buwama (Calvary Chapel Buwama), in a community with predominant Catholicism, witchcraft, sorcery, drug abuse, and high crime rate. Over the past four years, God has done incredible work through the church. Many have come to Christ through regular evangelism, weekly Bible-teaching, radio broadcasts, audio Bible programs reaching over 100 villages, discipleship classes, and consistent church worship and teaching programs.

Their desire and burden is to plant more Bible-teaching churches across the 200-mile stretch to Western Uganda, where there are none. Additionally, using their medical background as a platform for ministry, they established a Medical Center that provides affordable, quality healthcare, where many patients are not only treated for physical sicknesses, but most important, the gospel of Jesus Christ is preached to them with their caregivers. They have been blessed to witness many come to faith in Christ through this outreach, experiencing both physical and spiritual healing.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.

Romans 1:16

Praise Reports:

  • Church Growth & Discipleship-

    • Weekly midweek and Sunday services, plus small group fellowships, have led to steady spiritual growth through Christ-centered worship and expository Bible teaching.

  • Door-to-Door Evangelism-

    • Weekly outreaches allow many to hear the gospel and respond to the message of salvation.

  • Radio Bible Teaching-

    • Twice-weekly broadcasts reach over 10,000 listeners, sharing God’s Word and answering biblical questions from callers.

  • Audio Bible Listening Program-

    • Over 100 listening groups across 20+ villages hear the Word through Proclaimers, and many have come to faith in Jesus.

  • Medical Care Ministry-

Prayer Requests:

  • For believers to continue growing in their walk with the Lord Jesus Christ.
