CREATION

“In the Beginning God created the heavens and the Earth.” - Genesis 1:1

The word created is a fascinating word only used of God in the Bible. Create is the Hebrew word bara, which occurs some fifty-five times in the Old Testament and carries the idea of instantaneous, miraculous creation, which means to bring into being something from nothing. Bringing something from nothing is exactly what God did when He created the heavens and the earth.

In Genesis, we have the creation of time “In the Beginning,” and space “the Heavens,” and we have the creation of matter observed in the construction of “the Earth.” Atheism is rejected in the opening line of the Bible because God is the creator, and Pantheism is refuted because there is a personal God. From the very first verse of the Bible, we realize we are not here by accident. We are here because of God.

We can be confident today that our lives have meaning and a purpose for our existence. The universe we live in displays a divine plan and designer behind the design, and if you can accept the opening verse in Genesis, you won’t have a problem believing the rest of the Bible.

God created you for a purpose, and as you walk daily with Him, He will reveal His plan for your life.
