Developing a Life of Devotion

By Pastor John Randall

Set a Time

Pick a consistent time in the morning. It doesn’t have to be long. Start with 15–20 minutes.

Create a space with minimal distractions. It might be a chair in your house, on the patio, in your office, or even in your car before work. Solitude helps you focus.

Find a Quiet Place

Open with Prayer

a.  Thank Him for the new day.

b.  Ask Him to speak to you through His Word.

c.  Invite the Holy Spirit to teach and guide you.

d.  Pray for a friend in need.

Begin by simply talking to the Lord:

Read the Word Slowly and Out Loud

Read one Psalm and one Proverb.

Choose a book of the Bible (Start in the New Testament)

What does this reveal about God?

Is there a promise to believe?

A command to obey?

A warning to heed?

Ask a few questions

Turn what you read into prayer.

If you read about God’s faithfulness, thank Him for it.

If you see conviction, confess it.

If you see an instruction, ask for the strength to obey.

Respond in Prayer

Write down one verse or one truth that stood out. Carry it with you throughout the day. Meditate on it.

Journal

End by committing your day to the Lord: “Lord, guide my words, my decisions, and my responses today. Let your will be done in my life.”

Close in Surrender

Share It

Text a friend and share with them the verse and what you learned.
