Hope Filled Hearts 4 Africa
This month, Sherrill and Michael Sedillo are our Missionaries of the Month. Below you can read what they have shared about their call to ministry and the work they are doing for the Lord in Uganda with their missionary ministry Hope Filled Hearts 4 Africa, which oversees the hospital and clinic in the the village of Naluko, focusing on women’s health and malaria treatment.
“And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’” Matthew 25:40
Sherill and Michael Sedillo have been called to serve in Uganda, Africa. They live in Capistrano Beach and have been married for 38 years. They have 3 children, 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Sherrill’s journey began over 22 years ago. While sitting in church, the pastor announced that a mission’s team was being put together for a trip to South Africa. It was like a loudspeaker to Sherill. She has had a heart for Africa since she was a small child. She glanced over at her husband Mike and he mouthed the words, “you can go”. With tears running down her face, the calling the Lord had put on her heart was confirmed. Sherill spent the next 3 years serving along-side Acres of Love in South Africa helping to care for children and babies that were HIV/Aids positive.
She later received an invitation to go to Uganda with the ministry, Welcome Home Uganda. It was there that she realized the severity of the healthcare problems, especially for women. The maternal and infant mortality rates were 1 in 44 women were dying in childbirth; that is about, 100 women per day. The infant mortality rate was even higher. God was calling her and she was ready to answer His call, to serve the poorest of the poor.
Sherill is passionate about birth and the treatment of women and babies. This passion led her to return to school at 57 to become a midwife so she could help women less fortunate in Uganda, Africa. Sherill believes that each baby is a gift from the Lord and every woman’s birth should be treated with compassion, respect, dignity and the love of Jesus. Her goal as a midwife is to help all women to have a safe birth experience.
Sherill is the founder of Hope Filled Hearts 4 Africa, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and oversees the administration of Hearts 4 Africa’s Naluko Women’s Hospital and Healthcare Clinic in Uganda, Africa. She firmly believes that this is a calling the Lord has placed on her heart. She goes to Uganda 3 times a year for 6 weeks (or so) at a time. The facility is located in Iganga, Uganda in a village called Naluko.
