God’s Call to Save Lives: Pregnancy Resource Center
Usually, each month, we feature one of our CSOC Missionaries so that our church body can remain informed of our missions work going on around the world. However, this month we are highlighting the Pregnancy Resource Center as it is in its own way, a mission field in our very own backyard. At the beginning of this month, the PRC is hosting the Walk for Life at the San Clemente Outlets, where you can join us as they raise support for their ministry. Here is what they shared with us:
Pregnancy Resource Center, aka PRC, had it’s beginnings in 2007, after God had placed a call on two women lives, Dr. Carol Barnes and Phyllis Straight, to form a pregnancy center to help women in crisis pregnancies choose life for their preborn babies. One year later, Dr. Barnes and Jane Wahl, the founding Executive Director, opened the Pregnancy Resource Center on April 14, 2008.
Since that time, God has grown the ministry from a small center offering pregnancy counseling and parenting classes to a pregnancy center and medical clinic offering limited OB ultrasounds, plus a mobile medical clinic, and provider of the abortion pill reversal treatment.
All our services are free and confidential and include:
Pregnancy Help
Pregnancy Testing
Pregnancy Decision Counseling on fetal development, abortion risks and
procedures, alternatives to abortion including parenting and adoption options, and more
Limited OB Ultrasounds by licensed medical professionals
Abortion Pill Reversal - for women who have started a medication abortion and regret their decision, we provide medical treatment that may reverse the abortion if given in time.
Resources and referrals for social services, medical care, housing, professional counseling services and adoption agencies.
Help for men facing unplanned pregnancies who need male support, guidance, and peer counseling.
Education and Continued Support
Parenting Classes through our Earn While You Learn® mentor education program which features over 180 different prenatal, parenting and Life Skills classes for new moms and dads to attend in either an individual or group
setting. By participating, moms and dads earn “Baby Bucks” which can be spent in our beautiful Baby Boutique for maternity, baby clothes and suppliesConnect Program is for clients who make a profession of faith at PRC. They can join our 7-week essential Bible study - New Life Connections. Afterwards, each participant has access to a church liaison who will connect them to their home church.
Forgiven and Set Free Post-Abortion Bible classes - for those who have experienced abortion and seek spiritual and emotional healing, we offer a confidential 12-week Bible study where women receive God’s love and forgiveness and are set free to live an abundant life in Christ.
Education on abstinence and responsible sexual values
At PRC our goal is to glorify God by honoring His creation - human life created in His image. Each person who serves at PRC has made a commitment to uphold the Sanctity of Human Life, and to share the love of Jesus Christ with those we serve. Whatever our role, be it staff member, a board member, or one of our 70 volunteers, our purpose is the same. We are the hands and feet of Jesus to minister with compassion, and to respect and serve our clients and one another.
Since we’ve opened our doors in 2008, we’ve ministered to 3,100 clients through our free services, over 362 babies have been saved from abortion, the Gospel has been shared to 1,160 people, and 530 people have received Jesus Christ as their Savior! Plus we’ve given over 2,800 parenting classes where we see the Lord transforming hundreds of lives so new families don’t just survive, but they thrive!
CLIENT TESTIMONY – here is a story from one of our clients who chose life for her baby at PRC!
Here is my story of how PRC has impacted my life. Growing up I lived in an abusive home with alcoholic/drug addicts as parents. As a result, I started drinking at an early age and at 16 I left my house to live with my boyfriend and found myself pregnant at 18. We lived in San Clemente just a few blocks away from PRC. I went in for a free pregnancy test and the result was positive. My client advocate shared about abortion risks and procedures, fetal development, my options, and they gave me an ultrasound and said they would be praying for me. When I got home I told my boyfriend and he was shocked. He was getting pressure from his family for me to get an abortion. They even offered to pay for it. With all of this outside pressure I found myself looking into abortion clinics near me but deep in my heart I knew abortion was wrong and I found myself going back to PRC week after week because they were the only ones believing in me. I started attending the Earn While You Learn program where my parenting coach gave me a pin of a 12-week old fetus’s feet, which I still have to this day. The Earn While You Learn program offered me to get a better understanding of my growing baby also to earn free diapers and baby clothes by doing homework each week. This had made a huge impact in my life because money was very tight at that time. During that time I also started attending a church nearby and accepted Jesus as my Savior. I got baptized while I was pregnant with my baby and soon after, my little girl was born healthy and happy. She is not just the joy of my life but also brings joy to all those who are around her. She’s growing up fast and loves to share Jesus where ever she goes. Her father and I got married two years ago and now my little girl is a big sister. Because of PRC I chose life for my first-born child. I have learned good parenting skills despite my own upbringing, and most importantly I have opened my heart to a relationship with Jesus. Thank you so much for everyone who supports this ministry it has made the biggest difference in my life.
